Modern Chiropractic + Sports Rehab in Aurora, IL
ankle + foot pain treatment
Ankle and foot pain can make walking, running, exercising, standing, and everyday movement more difficult. We take the time to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and build an individualized treatment plan to help you move more comfortably, build strength, and get back to the activities you enjoy.
ankle + foot pain can show up in different ways
Ankle and foot pain may feel like aching, stiffness, sharp pain with certain movements, or discomfort during weight-bearing activities. You may notice symptoms with walking, running, stairs, exercise, sports, or standing for longer periods of time.
Symptoms may be felt around the ankle, heel, arch, or other areas of the foot and can begin after an injury or develop gradually over time. Understanding where you feel your symptoms, how they started, what movements affect them, and how they limit your activities helps us determine the best place to start.
If numbness or tingling is present, we’ll also assess whether symptoms may be related to nerve involvement elsewhere in the leg or lower back.
what causes ankle + foot pain?
Ankle and foot pain doesn’t always come from one specific structure or injury. It can be influenced by irritation of muscles, tendons, connective tissues, or joints; repetitive demands; changes in activity or training; and how the ankle and foot are currently tolerating movement and load. Pain can also begin after an injury, such as a fall, ankle sprain, sports injury, or sudden force through the foot or ankle.
That’s why we don’t base treatment on where it hurts alone. Your history, symptoms, movement, strength, mobility, and how the injury occurred, when relevant, all help us understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and whether further evaluation is needed.
TISSUES + JOINTS
Muscles, tendons, connective tissues, and joints can contribute to pain, stiffness, weakness, or restricted movement around the ankle and foot.
INJURY + ACTIVITY
Ankle sprains, falls, sports injuries, repetitive activity, or changes in training and workload can all influence ankle and foot symptoms.
DAILY DEMANDS
Walking, standing, stairs, work, footwear, and other everyday demands can influence how your ankle and foot feel and function.
how we treat ankle + foot pain
Treatment is individualized based on what we find during your assessment, how your symptoms behave, and what you want to get back to doing.
Your care may combine specific hands-on treatment with personalized rehabilitation exercises to address pain, improve ankle and foot movement and strength, and gradually increase your ability to handle the activities that matter to you.
When symptoms suggest possible nerve involvement, we’ll also assess relevant areas of the lower back, hip and leg rather than focusing only on the ankle or foot.
HANDS-ON TREATMENT
Specific soft tissue treatment, chiropractic adjustments, and joint mobilizations are used when appropriate to reduce pain, improve movement, and address areas of restriction in the ankle, foot and surrounding regions.
PERSONALIZED REHAB
Exercises are selected based on your individual needs and may focus on ankle, foot and lower body strength, mobility, stability, and movement control based on what we find during your assessment.
BUILDING CAPACITY
As you improve, we progressively prepare your ankle, foot, and lower body for walking, running, jumping, exercise, sports, and the activities you want to return to.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST VISIT
Your first visit is about understanding what’s going on and beginning care.
We’ll talk through your symptoms, how they started, what makes them better or worse, and what you want to get back to doing. From there, we’ll assess your movement, mobility, strength, and other relevant factors. If imaging or further medical evaluation is appropriate, we’ll help guide you through the next steps.
When appropriate, we’ll begin treatment during your first visit and walk you through what we found, what we recommend, and how we’ll progress your care toward your goals.
