shoulder pain treatment
Shoulder pain can make lifting, reaching, exercising, sleeping, and everyday activities more difficult. We take the time to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and build an individualized treatment plan to help you move more comfortably, build strength, and get back to the activities you enjoy.
shoulder pain can show up in different ways
Shoulder pain may feel like aching, stiffness, sharp pain with certain movements, or weakness when reaching or lifting. You may notice discomfort reaching overhead or behind your back, sleeping on the affected side, exercising, or performing repetitive activities at work or home.
Symptoms may stay around the shoulder or extend into the upper arm, shoulder blade, or neck. Shoulder pain can begin after an injury or develop gradually over time, and understanding where you feel your symptoms, what movements affect them, and how they limit your daily activities helps us determine the best place to start.
what causes shoulder pain?
Shoulder pain doesn’t always come from one specific structure or injury. It can be influenced by irritation of muscles, tendons, connective tissues, or joints; changes in activity or training; repetitive demands; and how your shoulder is currently tolerating movement and load. Pain can also begin after a traumatic injury, such as a fall, collision, or sudden force to the shoulder.
That’s why we don’t base treatment on where it hurts alone. Your history, symptoms, movement, strength, mobility, and how the injury occurred, when relevant, all help us understand what may be contributing to your shoulder pain and whether further evaluation is needed.
TISSUES + JOINTS
Muscles, tendons, connective tissues, and joints can all contribute to pain, weakness, or restricted movement around the shoulder.
INJURY + ACTIVITY
Falls, collisions, sports injuries, repetitive movements, or changes in training and workload can all influence shoulder symptoms.
DAILY DEMANDS
Lifting, reaching, computer work, sleep positions, and other everyday demands can influence how your shoulder feels and functions.
how we treat shoulder pain
Treatment is individualized based on what we find during your assessment, how your symptoms behave, and what you want to get back to doing.
Your care may combine specific hands-on treatment with personalized rehabilitation exercises to address pain, improve shoulder movement and strength, and gradually increase your ability to handle the activities that matter to you.
HANDS-ON TREATMENT
Specific soft tissue treatment, chiropractic adjustments, and joint mobilizations are used when appropriate to reduce pain, improve movement, and address areas of restriction in the shoulder and surrounding regions.
PERSONALIZED REHAB
Exercises are selected based on your individual needs and may focus on shoulder and upper-body strength, mobility, stability, and movement control based on what we find during your assessment.
BUILDING CAPACITY
As you improve, we progressively prepare your shoulder for reaching, lifting, work, exercise, sports, and the activities you want to return to.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR FIRST VISIT
Your first visit is about understanding what’s going on and beginning care.
We’ll talk through your symptoms, how they started, what makes them better or worse, and what you want to get back to doing.
